“When I came, I hadn’t eaten for days and was at my lowest point. I felt no judgement from staff and volunteers. I felt cared about and listened to – a person, not a number or a case.”

Simon visited the Clock Tower Sanctuary for a period back in 2019 after becoming homeless. He recently got in touch to talk about how things had changed for him since that time, and the progress he'd made.

"Since I attended The Clock Tower Sanctuary, I’ve gone on to recently complete some courses in security, customer service and first aid (including mental health). I've been working in security and have just started a new position. I'm doing a Team Leading course soon to boost my continuing professional development. Long term, I'm looking at working my way up to a degree.

If it weren’t for the centre, I wouldn’t have eaten and may even be in prison.

When I came I had no confidence or self-worth as I wasn't used to being appreciated. Coming to the Clock Tower Sanctuary encouraged to be myself, recognise my strengths and got me on the path to achieving my goals. All of this was possible through honest conversations.

I got access to opportunities which gave me hope and contributed to my confidence – and the food was bloody amazing. My favourite spot was in the kitchen.

It's special that I felt able to take time and be listened to, and work toward my goals at my own pace.

Despite having learning difficulties, past trauma and various setbacks, I persevered and have become successful with regular work and accommodation.

When I came, I hadn’t eaten for days, and was at my lowest point. I felt no judgement from staff and volunteers. I felt cared about and listened to – a person, not a number or a case to be moved on as quickly as possible.

Without coming to the centre it would not have been possible, so I’d really like to say thank you very much. Once I’ve got a bit more money I will look at donating some to you. I can't even explain how helpful The Clock Tower Sanctuary was - It's the least I can do to say thank you."
