Monday 15th June, fifteen of our young people, four staff members, and one volunteer enjoyed a sun-soaked day trip to London to visit the Museum of Homelessness’ summer exhibition, Criminal: An Untold History of Homelessness, Resistance, and Survival.
The group from CTS was given a private tour of the museum while the space was closed to the public, giving our young people privacy and freedom to explore the museum’s indoor and outdoor exhibitions at their leisure. The museum itself was established in 2014, created and operated by individuals with their own lived experience of homelessness.
Below is what one young person had to say about her experience at the exhibition:
“It was very sobering, and it was reassuring to see that a lot of other people have gone through the same things we’re going through. Homelessness is an ongoing issue; it has deep roots, and in some cases, it feels like the world is against you. I felt a real sense of camaraderie with the people who have suffered in the past, suffering through the exact same things we are suffering through now. Hearing quotes from those people, hearing their stories, that felt sobering and felt enlightening.”
We would like to say a huge and wholehearted thank you to the Museum of Homelessness for their generous invitation and hospitality, and for a wonderful day trip that we’ll be remembering for a long time.

It’s thanks to your generous and continued support that we can provide opportunities like these for young people facing homelessness in our city. So many of us take for granted the opportunity to spend a day in London, visit a museum, enjoy meals out, and make memories like these. Thank you for ensuring that 16- to 25-year-olds who don’t have a place to call home don’t also go without crucially important experiences like these.
